Culture of comfort on the sea

Yacht chairs as a seafaring essential

Our Yacht Chair takes inspiration from the culture of seafaring in the 20s and 30s, in particular the great yacht Portola. Built in New York’s famous Nevins Yard in 1928, the 121ft yacht had a stint as a minesweeper in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War. In the post-war years, it changed hands and had many owners including the actor Errol Flynn, thus entering the entertainment industry, and was later bought by entrepreneurs who rented it for film and TV. The yacht plays a central role in Billy Wilder’s ‘Some Like It Hot’ (1959), in which Tony Curtis’s saxophone player Joe uses it to seduce Marilyn Monroe’s Sugar. The yacht boasts beautiful decks and rooms in heavily varnished wood, where our Yacht Chair would have very much been in its element. Embodying the sleek functionality of campaign furniture, our Yacht Chair comes with a padded seat buoyed on its beech frame for extra comfort. Available in dark caramel leather and sand beige linen.
